Xbox 360 Has More Hits This Year than PS3, Says Analyst
From dailygame.net (http://www.dailygame.net/news/archives/008652.php ):
Sony, which manufactures both the PS3 and PSP, is facing some tough times compared to its hardware competitors this fall — and maybe for the year — based on November sales estimates from the industry analysts at Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR). According to the firm, only Resistance 2 drove good PS3-exclusive sales in November, while the PSP is expected to decrease year-over-year software sales when sales data is made public. Considering the usual holiday-season push for hardware and software sales, the result may be declines in total Sony hardware sales for the year, says EEDAR, even as the PS3 had several solid hits earlier in the year. While the PS3 doesn’t have the exclusive-game sales, says the report, the Xbox 360 is currently benefiting from sales of Gears of War 2 — which is expected to have sold 2 million units in November — and Left 4 Dead, another Xbox 360-exclusive game. Call of Duty: World at War, a multiplatform title, is doing well on both consoles, while Animal Crossing: City Folk is leading the way for Nintendo Wii. Jasper Motherboard in the Wild: 256MB Internal ‘MU’, 150W PSU, …
It looks like the first Jasper motherboards (which should have the new 65nm GPU) are now out in the wild! Moddage posted pictures of his new Jasper 360 on our forums (here (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=668038 ) and here (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=668104 )) and we also received some pictures from The Dude Z. Both are Arcade SKUs made 10-23-2008 Lot #0843X by Team FDOU. (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/f3c460fe.jpg ) (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/3029fbd4.jpg ) The new power supply is now 150W (25W less than those used with Falcon boards) and the plug has of course been changed so u can’t plugin this PSU into an older motherboard. (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/1127080411.jpg ) (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/1127081346b.jpg ) Other unannounced change … the onboard flash chip has grown from 16MB to 256MB. Microsoft included internal memory storage, so the Arcade SKU now ships without (external) Memory Unit and the new NXE dash will install fully on the flashchip (rather than requiring a HDD or external MU). But the internal memory can also be used to store gamesave data, XBLA games, videos or whatever … u can use it asif it was an external MU. As the flash chip is also used for the kernel/keyvault/dash etc there seems to be about 214MB left according to scoldingice on our forums (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=668104&view=findpost&p=4384392 ) to store your own stuff (this is prior NXE install, if you install NXE it will take most of the space). I’m guessing the Jasper PRO and Elite SKUs will also come with this internal memory. It’s just cheaper for Microsoft to make 1 type of motherboard for all SKUs rather than making a different version for each SKU. Also seems logic in a way … get the full NXE dash on the internal flash is much ‘cleaner’ than using HDD/MU for it. (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/jasper06.jpg ) (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/manual01.jpg ) The motherboard design didn’t change much … besides the bigger flash and what’s probably the new 65nm GPU, we also see a new south bridge model … the rest (videochip, CPU, heatsinks, general board layout, …) seems pretty much similar to falcon boards. (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/dd3df355.jpg ) (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/jasper07.jpg ) (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/bc096668.jpg ) (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/6c3f98b6.jpg ) It also appears there are RAM chips on the bottom of the board again (without thermal pads even) … Microsoft recently switched to RAM chips with double capacity (http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EkElpylpypwOmrSMkk.php ) so they could drop the 4 chips on bottom (and only place 4 on the top) … but apparently they are back (old stock maybe?). However the type of RAM chips they use is not bound to the motherboard revision … there are falcon boards with RAM chips only on the top and falcon boards with RAM chips on both top and bottom. Same can happen for the jasper boards. (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/cdb630e1.jpg ) (http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/jasper/6820e026.jpg ) It looks like the first Jasper motherboards (which should have the new 65nm GPU) are now out in the wild!

Motorstorm 2 to feature four player split screen action
Darren Waters of the BBC has confirmed that Motorstorm 2 will feature a four player split screen option, thus fixing one of the key missing features in the first game. Waters goes on to mention the game is months away from completion, but the engine looks superb and the graphics as you’d expect were very impressive.
Motorstorm 2 is due out in time for Christmas and moves the action away from the desert locale of the original. Gamers will be able to race around a lush island environment, full of interactive vegetation.
The game will feature four-player split-screen action, righting one of the obvious failings of the first game.

Sony ‘Way Ahead’ on Environmental Issues
From edge-online.com (http://www.edge-online.com/features/sony-%E2%80%9Cway-ahead%E2%80%9D-environmental-issues?page=0%2C0 ):
Greenpeace International has told Edge that Sony is a significantly greener videogame company than both Microsoft and Nintendo. And while Microsoft is improving its standards, Nintendo is performing woefully. Sony: 24/45 Microsoft: 15/45 Nintendo: 4/45 And though Microsoft’s score suggests they are not too far from Sony in the broadest sense, the company’s score of fifteen points were largely tallied in three areas; precautionary principles, chemicals management and a timeline for phasing out potentially dangerous chemicals. Microsoft scored nine points in these three areas and failed to impress Greenpeace in a number of other areas, yet Sony accumulated its higher total by a focused effort across the spectrum of green measures. “Microsoft is just getting on board with the environment. They’ve just hired a sustainability team, and we are seeing movement from Microsoft with its 360 console, but the company had started from a very low base.” Kruszewska does praise Microsoft for making its changes, however, especially in its promise to eliminate PVC BFRs [brominated flame retardants - known for their toxic properties, resistance to degradation in the environment and an ability to ‘build’ inside humans and animals] by the end of 2010. “But really, they have it so easy because they only make two core hardware products - the 360 and the Zune - they should really be way ahead. But they are coming on board for sure.”
Full Story: edge-online.com (http://www.edge-online.com/features/sony-%E2%80%9Cway-ahead%E2%80%9D-environmental-issues?page=0%2C0 ) (3 pages) From edge-online.com:

Metallica to Release Death Magnetic as DLC for Guitar Hero III
Okay, even with rumors of a possible Metallica Guitar Hero in the works I never thought I would see the day I would be posting this. It seems Metallica is going to release their 9th studio album Death Manetic and DLC for Guitar Hero III the same day Friday September 12th. The group that took on millions of fans with their Napster lawsuit is now finding out that there are new ways to deliver music. What some are calling video game history the move shows what we have been saying ever since the games hit the Xbox 360. Fans want music and the Xbox 360 is a way to get music to the fans.
While the news maybe great for fans of Metallica the price is a bit high the DLC album will be priced at 1440 Microsoft points. There will be two versions of the song Suicide & Redemption with extended guitar solos added on one version and the remaining tracks are That Was Just Your Life, The End of the Line, Broken, Beat & Scared, The Day That Never Comes, All Nightmare Long, Cyanide, The Unforgiven Ill, The Judas Kiss and My Apocalypse. Then in October when Guitar Hero World Band is released the tracks will also be compatible and nothing else to buy to use with GH World Tour. While this is a cool feature it has not been explained how tracks will be used from one game to another.
